Osmosis Gallery is thrilled to add the breathtaking work of Denise Susanne Townsend, an interdisciplinary artist whose talent and vision span continents and cultures, to our gallery in Niwot. Born and raised in the United States, Townsend began her journey in the arts in Florence, Italy, where she was captivated by the region's natural beauty, rich history, and the melodic cadence of the Italian language.
Inspired by the mezzo-frescos of the Italian Renaissance, Townsend apprenticed to the craft and soon began exploring the use of enigmatic painting materials to mimic the texture and ethos of ancient frescoed walls. Her graduate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute furthered her artistic vision, leading her on an international adventure to live and work abroad.
During an 18-month sojourn in the Middle East, Townsend immersed herself in the landscape of Lucid Art Foundation's Bishop Pine Preserve. Surrounded by forest creatures, silence, and unbridled time, she continued to refine and synthesize her vision, incorporating natural materials like earth minerals, plant medicines, ash, and stone into her handcrafted paints.
Townsend's art has been exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States, Europe, and South America and resides in private collections at home and abroad. Her work is deeply influenced by the collective reverberations of our clarion call, capturing the essence of art as poetry, metaphor, medicine, and muse.
We invite you to experience the enigmatic and multifaceted art of Denise Townsend, whose creative journey spans continents and cultures, and whose work continues to captivate and inspire audiences around the world.
