I have always considered myself primarily an artist who has had the good fortune to make a living as both an artist and an architectural illustrator. They feed each other. As an artist I feel that I am able to lend a looseness and expressiveness to architectural work and the daily experience and the demand for quality in the architectural arena help to make me a better painter.
My latest work is an exploration of a color palette that has evolved over several years. I like the vibrancy that results from the combination of just a few colors and the way they make light happen naturally. The paintings themselves are start out as pencil sketches and when I convert them to oil I strive to keep the sketchiness intact.
I feel it’s appropriate to be showing this new work in an art space which doubles as an art gallery alongside architects who are also artists.
