Laura Bryant

Laura Bryant is a fiber artist based just west of Niwot, Colorado. Working as LAURA: Rope Baskets & Artworks, she builds one-of-a-kind bowls, baskets, table mats and totes from rope, fabric, ribbon, thread, vintage buttons and recycled leather. Each piece is both an artwork and a vessel meant to be used. She treats her materials like layers of paint, building rhythm and texture drawn from patterns in nature.
Laura grew up in New Jersey and northern New York near the Canadian border, surrounded by lakes, rivers and forest, and spent long stretches with family in Eastern Quebec. She earned a BA in Education and Fine Art from SUNY Potsdam and an MA in Education with an art emphasis from the University of Colorado Boulder.
She taught art in the Boulder Valley School District for 32 years, the last 27 as the founding art teacher at Fireside Elementary in Louisville. Along the way she took on commissioned paintings, drawings and mixed-media work. She started her rope basket practice in 2023 and has since shown at Boulder Open Studios, Harlequin's Gardens and Red Door Arts & More. She teaches rope basket making at Maggie's Sewing Center in Longmont and in her own studio. Outside the studio she's usually biking, hiking or swimming with her husband, Tom, and their golden doodle, Toby.
