Lamecia Landrum

self portrait.JPG

Lamecia Landrum has been creating characters for as long as she can remember. As a child, she fashioned dolls from whatever materials were at hand—clay, cloth, wire, wood, tin, sticks, and paper—dressing them to reflect people from her favorite stories and films. Today, that lifelong passion continues through her expressive mixed media figures, each one a study in personality, posture, and presence.

Lamecia earned her BFA from Oklahoma State University and gathered life experience through a wide range of roles—from working at Disneyland and a toy shop to traveling the world as an airline stewardess, including during the Vietnam War. She later became an art teacher and pursued graduate work in costume design and theatre, returning once again to the world of character creation. Her work as a costume designer earned recognition from the Denver Drama Critics Circle and Westword newspaper.

Her current work continues to explore how people present themselves—how facial expressions, posture, clothing, and adornment often speak louder than words. Based in Denver, Colorado, Lamecia creates mixed media dolls and characters that reflect humor, insight, and a lifelong love of storytelling through form and texture.
