ChaCha

self portrait.JPG

Cha Cha is a sculptor and calligrapher who brings together the strength of steel with the grace of handwritten form. With over 16 years of experience working in steel, bronze, and aluminum—and more than three decades in calligraphy—her work reflects a lifelong passion for material, movement, and transformation.

“There is a moment in time when steel is completely malleable,” she explains. “At 2000 degrees, you can bend it. Then, in eight seconds, it reverts to its unyielding, iron-willed self.” This fleeting window of possibility fuels her process. A friend once told her, “Whatever you can do with a piece of clay, you can do with steel—if you have the proper tools and heat.” That idea continues to guide her constant experimentation.

By merging metalwork with calligraphic brushwork, Cha Cha creates dynamic forms where the solidity of steel intensifies the fluidity of line. Her pieces capture a kind of inner music—energy made visible through fire, motion, and rhythm.

More recently, she has also embraced clay as an expressive medium. Drawn to its tactile, hands-on nature, she has sculpted over fifty whimsical “fantasy” birds, each with a distinct personality. Whether through steel or ceramic, her work invites viewers into a world where contrasting forces—rigidity and fluidity, precision and play—exist in joyful harmony.
