Long time Boulder resident Dee Crouch, MD retired in 1990 from a 22 year career in the emergency room to pursue a career in art. He completed his MFA in 1993 at the University of Colorado. This thesis project was a 50’ ice tower. Best described as a large scale conceptual/performance piece, it informed 15 years of similar sculptures. With ever warmer winters the execution of such projects had become problematic. Looking for a new and challenging medium, Crouch discovered hot blown glass in 2003 and has been at it since. A graduate of the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington he works on a daily basis at Ambrosia Glass Art in Longmont.
